You and I
Language: English
He was a dear, little, sweet, little boy,
She was a maiden so slim and so coy.
His hair was so brown and his eyes were so blue,
While hers were the colour that makes you go, Ooh!
They met at a Sunday School picnic one day—
He said, "My name's Percy," she said, "Mine is May."
So they walked on together, no fear of the weather,
And they came to a swing snd he said:-
Chorus
" Let us swing here together and never we'll sever,
But always endeavour to swing, you and I,
Right up to the sky, where a parson we'll hie,
So pious, who'll tie us, and then you and I
Will come down and have fun; so don't run or be dumb,
But say you'll agree we'll be one-you and I.
And then well swing higher with never a sigh, oh,
Right up to the sky-you and I."
Years have gone by and that dear little boy
Has grown up to manhood, but still tis his joy
To think of a sweet little girl whom he knows,
Who has grown like a fairy and sweet as a rose.
And oft as he sits at the close of the day,
Right up on his knees climbs a little new May.
And they sit there together no fear of the weather.
And he lulls her to sleep as he sings:
Chorus
" Let us swing here together and never we'll sever...
Chorus refrain
O, let us swing up here together,
and I promise you we'll never, never sever,
But will stick together just like glue, and then endeavour to be true—
you and I.
A high up in the sky where a big parson we will hie,
who will then start to tie us,
And then wa will always get along together. You and I
Will then come down to the earth and have some ripping fun
So please don't run or gammon to be dumb,
But say that you agree and always wanted me—you and I
And then we'll swing up higher,
higher right up like a flier till we can't look higher—
And then I think we'll be in heaven-you and I.
