Des Tages Auge schloß sich wieder,
Hin ist des Frühlings Glanz und Glut:
Nacht sinkt auf Thal und Berge nieder,
Matt leuchtet nur des Rheines Flut.

Und wie durch Blüthenbäume flimmert
Der Abendstern so froh und mild,
Ist mir's als ob von ferne schimmert
In meine Nacht Johanna's Bild.
