Wie oft mit stillen Thränen 
Hab' ich's erfleht von des Geschickes Gunst; 
Begeistert schlug mein Herz der heil'gen Kunst, 
Darum begehrt es nur in stolzem Sehnen: 
Allein zu sein!  

Ich bin allein! 
Allein in Lust und Schmerzen, 
Und was ich einst gebeten ist erfüllt.   --  
Ach!  was ich liebte, hat das Grab umhüllt, 
Und ewig tönt es im verwais'ten Herzen: 
Ich bin allein!
