Herauf, herauf mit deiner Purpurglut,
O Sonne, die mir noch verborgen ruht!
Lang' harrt' ich dein in dunkler, stiller Nacht,
Und hab mit banger Sehnsucht dein gedacht.

Herauf, herauf! Das Nebelmeer entflieht,
Schon seh' ich, wie ein Adler aufwärts zieht.
Der Eichwald braust, es dämmert rings das Tal,
Und auf den Bergen flammt ein lichter Strahl.

O Sonne, Sonne! Heil'ges Himmelslicht,
Nur Wolken seh' ich dort, dich seh' ich nicht.
So stürme denn noch einmal, Sturm der Nacht,
Auf dass sie strahle in der alten Pracht.
