all the ghosts have gone
and the dark befriends me
when grey days close.
Out in its stillness
it hides all the tears,
lets a snow path freeze
across the fields;
it allows me to dream
when I’m not asleep,
eases the loneliness

The quietness settles
under shaking stars;
the night seems so small,
the morning so large.
