by Adolf Verriest (1830 - 1891)
Translation by Edward Keurvels (1853 - 1916), as E. Duward

Gaat de mensch
Language: Dutch (Nederlands)  after the French (Français)
Gaat de mensch hier omlaag
onder zorg vaak gebogen,
toch heeft ook 't leven heil
voor iedren stervling veil,
als het hart feller jaagt,
de ziel zich voelt bewogen
en vreugd smaakt zonder peil,
door de liefde, door de liefde;
als God, die, vol erbarming,
de zusterzielen schiep,
ons zulk een ziel verleent,
en, in overzaalge omarming,
man en vrouw saam vereent.
De innige liefde dier twee,
't zoet genot, dat zij deelden
en rouw noch onrust baart,
hun trouw steeds rein bewaard,
en hunne kuische weelden,
zijn 't paradijs op aard!
