sometimes misattributed to Karoline Engelhard (1781 - 1855) and by Karoline Fidler (1801 - 1874)

Amen
Language: German (Deutsch)
Wenn in mein Bett ich steige,
Das Haupt auf's Kissen neige,
Dann bet' ich, daß der Liebste treu
Mir stets allein ergeben sei,
Und hauch' in seinem Namen
Ein glückverheißend Amen.

Da wird's so still im Herzen,
Es ruhen Gluth und Schmerzen,
Ich denk' an meines Lebens Sinn,
Was ich gewollt und was ich bin,
Und sprech' in meinem Namen
Ein ruhevolles Amen.

Und kommen dann die Sorgen,
Ob auch der neue Morgen
Mir neu verbürgt des Glückes Pfand?
Dann kalt' ich gläubig Hand in Hand,
Und jauchz' in Gottes Namen
Ein zuversichtlich Amen!

Confirmed with Gedichte von Karoline Fidler, Als Handschrift, 1844, page 38.
