by Victor Hardung (1861 - 1919)

Avalun
Language: German (Deutsch)
All, die wir reiten mit losem Zügel
Um das Sonnenland Avalun  --
Einmal kehren wir uns im Bügel,
Wohl einen messenden Blick zu tun.

Hinter uns dann in verlorener Ferne
Schwimmen auf rosigem Abendflaum
Dunkle Zinnen und goldene Sterne,
Und unsere Seele sieht ihren Traum.

Hinter uns liegts. Wir können nichts messen --
Nimmer erjagen, nimmer erruhn  --
Was wir ersehnen, wir habens besessen;
Das ist die Märe von Avalun.

Confirmed by Victor Hardung, Gedichte, Zürich: H. Bachmann-Gruner, 1904, page 25.
