Kúrir tú litli songfuglur mín,
fjaðursárur í búri,
tagnaðiröddin fögur og fín,
lítið er tær nú um mjödin og vìn,
songfuglur mín, skerður í fangabúri.

Minnist tú leikin um grönan völl
fjaðursárur í búri,
minnist tú gil og dalar og fjöll,
lætt var títt flog og rödd tínsnjöll,
minnini öll fána í fangabúri.

Durvar tú longu, hövd undir vong,
fjaðursárur í búri,
kanska tú droymir um fuglasong,
ástarleik yvir grönu ong
árini mong sloppin úr fangabúri.
