by Servaas Domien Daems (1838 - 1903)

Aan den nachtegaal
Language: Dutch (Nederlands)
De dagtoorts dooft haar glansen;
Reeds daalt de stille nacht;
De maan, in zuivre pracht,
Rijst langzaam aan de transen.
O Nachtegaal, als water vliet
Door 't luistrend woud dijn drupplend lied!
Gezeten onder 't loover,
Op 't gras van 't groene dal,
Bewondren wij 't getoover
Van dijnen tonenval.

Hoe stil! Geen blaadje ruischt er....
Reeds sluimert de Echo zelf;
En 's hemels diep gewelf
Prijkt met zijn sterrenluister.
O Nachtegaal, als water vliet
Door 't luistrend woud dijn drupplend lied;
En 't juublen dijner zangen
Heeft in dit nachtlijk uur
Slechts ons om 't op te vangen,
O Zanger der natuur.
