by Humbert Wolfe (1885 - 1940)

The Old Lady
Language: English
The old, old lady,
that nobody knows,
sits in the Garden
shelter, and sews.

Save for her restless
fingers she
is cold and still
as ivory.

The chestnut-blossom,
blown on her dress,
seems only a sculptor's
cleverness

Confirmed with Humbert Wolfe, in: Twentieth-century poetry, Boston : Houghton Mifflin Co., 1929, p.256
