Nu vågner

Nu vågner den trætte, forgræmmede dag,
nu gråner de rugende tåger.
Alverden blunder så tungt inat;
de såre tanker kun våger.

Jeg vil gå ind i den dunkle skov,
hvor duggen på bladene skjælver; -
og langt derinde, hvor alt er så tyst,
og granerne mørke sig hvælver,

der sidder en ældgammel heksekvind
med flagrende tjavset lok.
Hun sidder i dæmringens grånende gry
og træder så flinkt sin rok.

Og lydløst træder den gamle fod,
og lynrapt fingrene tvinder.
De blege læber mimrer en sang,
imedens hun spinder og spinder:

"Hvad tror du, jeg spinder, du vandringsmand,
som ene i natten våger?
Jeg spinder din egen livsenstråd,
af nattens de rugende tåger."
