Trotz alledem

Es hatte der Finke sein Nest gegründet,
in sicherer Gabel geschützt, geründet.
Da kam der Sturm und riss es entzwei.
Der Fink baut wieder und singt noch dabei,
trotz alledem.

Es ragte ein Eichbaum im jungen Forste,
gewaltig der Wipfel, dem Falk zum Horste.
Ihn traf der Blitzstrahl im Wettergebraus.
Ums Jahr im Lenz schlug er doch wieder aus,
trotz alledem!

Es müht sich der Mann, und er baut ins Ferne,
und leuchten ihm noch heut' die Sterne,
oft bricht der Morgen das Gestern entzwei;
der stützt die Faust und bleibt dennoch dabei,
trotz alledem.
