Over the Meadow
Language: English
The brown lark sings as it mounts on high,
The breezes sing in their eddying by,
The brook sings loud to the morning sky,
For gone are the rain and the shadow.
The blackbird flutes on the apple tree bough,
The plough boy sings in the wake of the plough.
Join in the singing— I'Il show you how,
As we pass along over the meadow.
Why do they sing the long day through?
Singing's the only thing to do,
I think that the flowers would be carolling too
Of their joy in the sun and the shadow.
Will you not sing for the joy of May?
Will you be silent alone to-day?
Join in the song— I'll show you the way,
As we pass along over the meadow.
