by Josef Julius Wecksell (1838 - 1907)

Den vakande modern
Language: Swedish (Svenska)
Där ute stormen i rutan slår,
de svarta vingar och natten rår,
men slumra stilla, min rosenkind,
du vackra morgon, du unga vind!
Mitt barn jag vaggar med sånger in,
det hör ej stormen blott rösten min.

En skugga hemsk sig där ute rör
och täljer synder, som ingen hör,
men slumra stilla min ängel mild,
du kärlekstanke, du oskulds bild!
Du lutar dig på min arm så godt,
du ser ej skuggan, mitt löje blott.

Den vida världen där ute står
och ropar på dig om några år,
men än du slumrar i fridsäll hamn,
din lugna värld är din moders famn.
O, minns i villande världens gång
som nu du hör den, din moders sång!
