I watched in awe as rumbling clouds Dropped torrents on the prostrate earth I waited, half-afraid half-proud To watch the miracle, the miracle of birth I waited, I wandered in the starry dark To let its singing bear me up; In dewy morning calm I held communion in a lily’s cup.
