Ahi, che posar non puote, 
or che sopito giace 
entro tranquilla pace, 
il martir d’ogni core, 
prole d’empio destino, il mio dolore; 
e così straziami che disperando 
aita, il mio tormento 
già mai sanare a respirar pavento. 
Da quei lumi che nel seno 
m’avventar l’acceso dardo 
per cui ardo, la speranza 
già serena al mio male è vanità, 
s’è lor vanto maggior la crudeltà. 
Che dagl’astri i miei disastri 
prender possano ristoro 
e coi giri del sol cangiar vicende; 
dal pensiero non s’intende 
che se langue dal cor l’alma ferita 
è follia l’aspettar soccorso e aita. 
Onde con strana sorte 
la mia vita alimenta 
ciò che più la tormenta e attendo intanto, 
co’ finire i miei dì, 
per meta il pianto, stimando gloria 
nel cadere dal cielo oppresso e vinto, 
esser mirato in grembo al duolo estinto.
