by Vincenz Zusner (1803 - 1874)

Das Veilchen
Language: German (Deutsch)
Als ich das Veilchen heut gefragt,
ob jetzt im Lenz kein Morgen tagt,
wo Gram und Leid mir ganz vergeh'n,
da hat's mich traurig angeseh'n.

Und als ich dann die Frage tat,
ob dieser Morgen nicht mir naht,
wen einst der nächste Lenz erscheint,
da hat sein Köpfchen es verneint.

Und als ich endlich, halb verzagt,
das Veilchen noch zu letzt gefragt,
ob mir der Schmerz denn niemals schweigt,
da hat es sich hinab geneigt.

Confirmed with Neuere Gedichte von Vincenz Zusner, Wien, F. Beck's Universität-Buchhandlung, 1853, page 73.
