T'amo perchè sei buona, t'amo perchè sei bella,
  E dal profondo sguardo piovi dolcezza al cor:
  T'amo perchè rischiari, vaga lucente stella,
  L'ombra de'miei pensieri, l'ore del mio dolor.

T'amo perchè nei giorni, quando sento più greve
  Delle memorie l'onda sull'anima piombar,
  Tu passi a me d'accanto come una fata lieve,
E basta una tua sillaba quel turbine a placar.

T'amo perchè allorquando nel pensier mio sorridi,
  Oblio gli scherni e l'ire del tempo che fuggi:
  E naufrago superbo, vogante a ignoti lidi,
  Ritrovo ancora i cantici dei giovani miei di.

T'amo perchè è si bello marciar contro il destino
  Baciando una man bianca che un fior doni all'avel!
  Oh, guai, fata gentile, se lasci il mio cammino!
  Oh, guai, se tu sparissi, bell'astro, dal mio ciel!
