by Emílio de Menezes (1866 - 1918)

Nossa velhice
Language: Portuguese (Português)
Dizes-te velha, entretanto,
Em ti encontro cada dia
Um novo, inédito encanto,
Mais viço, mais louçania.

Em cada ano que se passa
Eis a diferença nossa:
Minh'alma envelhece baça,
A tua em viço remoça.

Seguimos da vida o trilho,
Tu, remoçada deveras,
Eu como um velho casquilho
Saudoso das primaveras.

Nossas almas, se me esforço
Por vê-las, a vista alcança,
A minha como remorso,
A tua como esperança.

Tens do tempo a cada arranco,
No olhar um novo alvoroço
E a cada cabelo branco
No lábio um riso mais moço.

E se os cabelos de prata
Soltas perdoando algum crime,
Por sobre mim se encascata
A água lustral que redime.

Da terra no seio forte,
Os lírios matam os goivos.
Marcharemos para a morte
Como se fôssemos noivos.
