Sorte stær på grene,
hvad kan du dog mene,
når du synger midt i is og sne? 
Ved du, at på kviste
knoppen snart må briste? 
Har du tegn, som ikke jeg kan se? 

Nej, kun lidt forstår jeg,
men dog et formår jeg,
jeg tør synge ud med håbets mod. 
Er dog solens flamme
endnu helt den samme,
som så tit fik vintren under fod. 

Ser du ej, ved hækken
vugger vintergækken
sine klokker alt i solens skær,
og fra luftens vidder
jubler lærkens kvidder:
Vi får dejligt - vi får dejligt vejr! 

Hvorfor så dog sørge,
hvorfor altid spørge
fuld af tvivl og uro i dit sind! 
Kald mig kun en tåbe,
jeg må altid håbe
og i håbet synge våren ind!
