by Henry Thode (1857 - 1920)

Abend auf dem Meere
Language: German (Deutsch)
   (dem guten Schäfer gewidmet)

Vom Strand her leuchten die Häuser
gelagert am Bergesfuß,
mit leis' errötendem Antlitz
der Sonne den Abschiedsgruß.
Und höher steigen die Schatten
und breiten sich übers Meer,
Ein still hindämmerndes Sinnen
schwebts über die Wasser her.
Der Hand entgleiten die Ruder,
den Augen vergeht das Schau'n,
und auf die Seele wie Perlen
die Abendgedanken thau'n.
