by Vilhelm Rasmus Andreas Andersen (1864 - 1953)

Maskarade
Language: Danish (Dansk)
Fordum var der fred på gaden
førend vægtren råbte ni,
slukt var lyset, lukt var laden,
aftengrøden røg i staden,
godtfolk gik fra aftensmaden
fredelig i hi.
Ingen te og sukkerlade,
intet kaffekompagni.
Maskarade, maskarade!
Freden er forbi!

Fordum stod den sikre stige:
Husbond, madmor, husets søn,
datter, svend og dreng og pige,
til at rokke den og vige
fra den vej til himmerige
hjalp ej løn, ej bøn.
Ingen ungdom kom for skade,
spurgte først, »hvad far vil sige«.
Maskarade, maskarade!
Nu er alle lige.
