Ich hab' es bei mir selber wohl erwogen
In einer langen, schlummerlosen Nacht,
Daß Liebe, die mir Süßes viel gebracht,
Mich dennoch um mein bestes Glück betrogen.

Denn seit der Zeit, daß ihrer ich gepflogen,
Verlor ich Ruhe, Heiterkeit, Bedacht;
Bald war mein Sinn zu wilder Glut entfacht
Und bald in Schmerzen fern hinausgezogen.

Darum beschloß ich, sonder Ungeduld
Dem holden Reiz auf immer zu entsagen
Und abzutun der Neigung süße Schuld.

In Ruhe sollst fortan, mein Herz, du schlagen
Und statt des Schattens flücht'ger Erdenhuld
Die Ewigkeit in deiner Tiefe tragen.
