by Rudolph Baumbach (1840 - 1905)

Ich bin zu Feld geschritten
Language: German (Deutsch)
Ich bin zu Feld geschritten,
Wollt'schneiden Gras und Klee.
Die Sichel hat geschnitten
In's Fingerlein, o weh!

Ein Knabe kam zur Stunde
Gar keck und hochgemuth.
Der schloss die tiefe Wunde
Und stillte mir das Blut.

Und weiter thät er schreiten,
Ich konnt' ihm danken kaum.
Sein denk' ich alle Zeiten
Im Wachen und im Traum.

Und tief im Herzen drinnen
Verberg' ich Gram und Weh.
O hätt' er lassen rinnen
Mein Herzblut in den Klee!
