by Ludwig Amandus Bauer (1803 - 1846)

Du sprachst, die Liebe schwindet nicht
Language: German (Deutsch)
Du sprachst: ,,die Liebe schwindet nicht,
Wie andre Erdenlust!``
Und legtest still dein Angesicht
An deines Lieblings Brust.

Ich aber sah zwei Rosen stehn
Treuinnig Wang' an Wang',
Da mußt' ich dir ins Auge sehn, --
Mir ward so seltsam bang.

Und nun mein Herz der Stunde denkt,
Steh' ich am Rosenbeet,
Die Eine hat welkend das Haupt gesenkt,
Die Andre blühend steht

Und eine heiße Thräne bricht
Aus meiner tiefsten Brust; --
Du sprachst: ,,die Liebe schwindet nicht,
Wie andre Erdenlust!``

Confirmed with Gedichte von Ludwig Bauer, Berlin, Riegel's Verglags-Buchhandlung, 1860, page 77.
