by Franz Xaver Seidl (1845 - 1892)

Lebe wohl, du traute Schwalbe
Language: German (Deutsch)
Lebe wohl, du traute Schwalbe,
Die zum fernen Süden fliegt,
Da bei uns schon welk und falbe
Rings das Laub am Boden liegt.

Ach, du darfst in ferne Lande
Du, des Glücks Verkünderin,
Über Meer und Wüstensande
Zu den fernen Rosen hin.

Dort wirst du dein Heim bereiten,
O wie neid' ich Nacht und Tag
Dich um deine Wanderzeiten
Und um deine Flügelschlag.

All' mein traut' Gedenken bringe
Jenem Land, wohin du ziehst,
Und ein Lied der Liebe singe,
Wenn du meine Rose siehst.
