Trotz Weib, Wein und Gesang
Language: German (Deutsch)
Ihr Narr'n in Nord, Süd, Ost und West,
hinaus nach Köln zum frohen Fest,
zum Carneval am grünen Rhein,
da lasst uns geck und fröhlich sein!

Dem so geliebt in erster Reih',
dem Weib ein stürmisches Juchhei!
Zwar lebt man stets im kleinen Krieg,
doch wechseln Niederlag' und Sieg!

In zweiter Reihe gilt's dem Wein,
der wohl zuweilen nicht ganz rein,
doch merkt man's wenig. Er und Sie
studieren selten nur Chemie!

Zuletzt, bei vollem Becherklang,
ein schauervoller Chorgesang;
nach irgendeiner alten Leier
geht's ohne Götze, ohne Mayer!

Ihr, die trotz Weib, Wein und Gesang
doch Narr'n bleibt euer Leben lang,
kommt all' nach Köln zum grünen Rhein,
da lasst uns geck und fröhlich sein!

Notes provided by Johann Winkler: For stanza 1, line 4, "geck" means "foolish" (cf. Grimm); and for stanza 3, line 4, Götze and Mayer were famous actors in Köln when this song came out.
