by Berthold Sigismund (1819 - 1864)

In der Nacht
Language: German (Deutsch)
Laue liebliche Maiennacht;
Tief liegt Alles im Traume.
Nur ein fernes Gewölke wacht,
Blitzend im düstern Saume.

Wie die Töne der Nachtigall
Flammen aus dunkeln Bäumen!
Ist es verlorener Liebe Schall,
Morgenden Glückes Träumen?

Brust, was schwillst du so weit, so weit?
Herz, was soll mir dein Schlagen?
Rührt euch vergangene glückliche Zeit,
Träumt ihr von künftigen Tagen?

Confirmed with Berthold Sigismund, Asclepias: Bilder aus dem Leben eines Landarztes, Gotha: Hugo Scheube, 1857, page 43. Appears in Lyrisches.
