Flieget, leichte Maienlüftchen
Language: German (Deutsch)
Available translation(s): ENG
Flieget leichte Maienlüftchen,
Die ihr schmeichelnd mich umweht,
In den Garten, da die Holde,
Mein gedenkend, wandeln geht.
Schüttelt von den vollen Bäumen
Duft und Blüthen auf ihr Haupt,
Daß sie träumend lacht und träumend
Sich von mir bekränzet glaubt.
Spielt mit ihren weichen Locken,
Raunt ihr zu manch süßes Wort,
Aber zagt sie, von der Stirne
Küßt statt mein die Zweifel fort.

Fly, light May breezes
Language: English  after the German (Deutsch)
Fly, light May breezes,
Who waft about me caressingly,
Fly into the garden where the lovely one
Walks about while thinking of me.
From the laden trees, shake
Scent and blossoms upon her head,
That, dreaming, she may laugh and, dreaming,
Believe herself to be garlanded by me.
Play with her soft curls,
Whisper many a sweet word to her,
But if she is apprehensive, then on my behalf
Kiss the doubts from her brow.
