Unangeklopft ein Herr tritt Abends bei mir ein: »Ich habe die Ehr', Ihr Rezensent zu sein!« Sofort nimmt er das Licht in die Hand, besieht lang meinen Schatten an der Wand, rückt nah und fern: »Nun, lieber junger Mann, sehn Sie doch gefälligst mal Ihre Nas' so von der Seite an! Sie geben zu, daß das ein Auswuchs is'.« Das? Alle Wetter - gewiß! Ei Hasen! ich dachte nicht, all' mein Lebtage nicht, daß ich so eine Weltsnase führt' im Gesicht! Der Mann sprach noch [Verschiedenes]1 hin und her, ich weiß, auf meine Ehre, nicht mehr; meinte vielleicht, ich sollt' ihm beichten. Zuletzt stand er auf; ich tat ihm leuchten. Wie wir nun an der Treppe sind, da geb' ich ihm, ganz frohgesinnt, einen kleinen Tritt, nur so von hinten aufs Gesäße mit - alle Hagel! ward das ein Gerumpel, ein Gepurzel, ein Gehumpel! Dergleichen hab' ich nie gesehn, all' mein Lebtage nicht gesehn einen Menschen so rasch die Trepp' hinabgehn!

Sans frapper, un type entre un soir chez moi : "J'ai l'honneur d'être votre critique !" Aussitôt, il me prend la lampe des mains, considère longuement mon ombre sur le mur, avance et recule : "Eh bien, jeune homme, ayez l'obligeance de regarder un peu votre nez de ce côté-ci ! Vous conviendrez que c'est une péninsule --Ça ? Mille tonnerres, ben ouais ! Bon sang de bois ! J'aurais jamais cru avoir un tel promontoire au milieu de la figure !!" Le type parla de choses et d'autres sur mon honneur, je ne sais plus de quoi ; il pensait peut-être que j'allais me débonder devant lui. A la fin, il se lève ; je lui fais de la lumière. Nous voilà maintenant en haut de l'escalier, malicieusement, je lui cède un peu le pas, juste pour lui envoyer dans les fesses -- une sacrée dégelée ! Quel potin, quel vacarme, quelle dégringolade ! J'avais jamais vu de ma vie, de ma vie entière, une type descendre aussi vite l'escalier !
