Hoch in der Frühe
Language: German (Deutsch)

Sieh, wie wir zu den Sternen aufsteigen!
Unsern glückstrahlenden Augen
leuchtet der Schnee der Gebirge,
bald blitzt dort unten die Sonne durch.
O! schon röten sich
Tiefen und Höhen;
durch den Rauch unsrer Atemzüge,
bis über das fernste Fünkchen dort oben
fern hinauf
schimmert die Nacht deiner Geburt,
glänzt der Tag unsrer Himmelfahrt.

High up in the early morning
Language: English  after the German (Deutsch)
See how we climb up to the stars!
For our eyes, beaming with happiness,
the snow of the mountains gleams,
soon the sun shall flash through there below.
Oh! already reddening
are the depths and the heights;
through the mist of our breaths,
beyond the farthest spark there
far above
shimmers the night of your birth,
shines the day of our ascent into heaven.
