Nicht diese wilden blut'gen Lieder

Not these wild, bloody songs

Language: English after the German (Deutsch)

 Not these wild, bloody songs,
They only cloud the happy gaze!
Return to earth again from these fanciful flights,
 Come back to the living!
To singing and playing we are united,
No trace of a breath from the grave!
For the truth to which you refer
 Lives only in your song!
Begin! sing of the reward of beautiful deeds,
As is proper for noble bards!
A song that extols the virtue of men,
 That praises our homeland!
The praise of men, the glory of heroes,
The battle song of the warriors:
 That is true singing,
 That is the genuine sound!
Very well, so be it! She has commanded, and we are prepared to do her bidding.
Strike up the German anthem, a song of freedom from a golden age!
