Può, è vero, il domani un torbido velo
Dell'aure serene l'aspetto turbar;
Ma s'oggi risplende azzurro il mio cielo,
Perchè rattristarmi d'un dubbio avvenir?
Io sono una pianta che ghiaccio non spoglia,
Che tutto disfida del verno il rigor;
Se fronda qui cade, là un'altra germoglia,
In ogni stagione son carca di fior.

Wer war wohl mein Vater, mein Vaterland, wie heißt es,
vergeblich erfragen die Leute mich dies;
nie wusst’ ich das erste, als Vaterland hab’ ich
die Erde, die mit Blüten, mit Frucht mich beschenkt.
Wo immer das Schicksal einen Weg mir bereitet,
dort find’ ich ein Lächeln und auch neue Lieb’;
warum an Vergang’nes Gedanken verschwenden,
wenn in dieser Stunde mein Herz sich erfreut?
Zwar ist’s möglich, dass morgen ein nebliger Schleier
den heiteren Himmel verdüstert und trübt;
doch wenn heut’ azurblau mein Himmel mir leuchtet,
warum mich dann sorgen, dass vielleicht ‘was passiert?
Ich bin eine Pflanze, die Frost nicht entkleidet,
die jedweder Strenge der Winterzeit trotzt.
Und fallen hier Blätter, dann wachsen dort neue,
das ganze Jahr über blüh’ ich überreich.
