Und langsam setz' ich Schuh um Schuh
Auf Fels und schneeverwehten Grund

Die kurze Pfeife schräg im Mund.

Vielleicht daß dort fern aller Welt
Im blauen Licht von Eis und Mond

Ascension

Tout alentour, de la neige et la glace des glaciers
Et la montagne abrupte, parois face à face,
Derrière comme en rêve, lointain et blanc,
L'Oberland couvert d'une neige épaisse.

Et lentement j'avance pas à pas
Sur les rochers et le sol bordé de congères
Et marche vers les glaciers,
Une courte pipe au coin de la bouche.

Peut-être que là-bas, loin du monde entier,
Dans la lumière bleue de la glace et de la lune,
Habitent la douce paix qui me manque,
Et le sommeil et l'oubli.
