A pena il sol con le sue chiome belle, 
Coronato di raggi, 
Vestito di splendori, 
Sorgea dall'onde ad offuscar le stelle, 
Quando un afflitto amante, 
Non trovando riposo 
Lasciò le piume, e spinto dal pensiero, 
Per ignoto sentiero 
Si portò vanneggiante, 
Fin che giunse in un prato 
Dove un fiume scorrea. 
Qui sospirando ei solo, 
Per dar tregua al suo duolo 
Ad'alta voce all'hor così dicea: 
"Dio di Delo, che nel cielo 
Porti luce al novo dì, 
Fa che Lilla il caro bene 
Per mercé delle mie pene, 
Pria del tuo tramontar mi doni un sì. 
Fa ch'Amore, quale il core 
Con sua face acceso m'hà, 
Del mio mal fatto pietoso 
Spenga almeno il foco ascoso 
Che chiuso dentr'al sen hora mi stà." 
In questa guisa appunto, 
Su la riva del fiume passeggiando, 
Gridava Eurillo, quando 
Per soverchio dolore 
havend'il piede al pari del pensiero, 
Vaccillante, e non essendo asciutto 
Dalla ruggiada ancor l'umido suolo, 
Sdruciolando nell'aque s'affogò; 
Così d'amore le fiamme amorzò.

À peine le soleil avec sa belle chevelure,
Couronné de rayons,
Vêtu de splendeur,
A surgi de l'onde pour obscurcir les étoiles,
Qu'un amant affligé,
Ne trouvant pas le repos,
Quitta son lit et conduit pas ses pensées,
Par un chemin inconnu
Allait en divaguant,
Jusqu'à ce qu'il arrive dans un pré
Où une rivière coulait.
Là, soupirant sur lui-même,
Pour donner un répit à son chagrin
À haute voix il s'exprima ainsi :
« Dieu de Délos, qui dans le ciel
Apporte la lumière au nouveau jour,
Fais que ma bien-aimée Lilla,
Par pitié de mes souffrances,
Avant ton lever me dise oui.
Fais qu'Amour par qui mon cœur
A été brûlé par sa flamme
Prenne en pitié mon mal,
Et au moins éteigne le feu
Qui maintenant brûle enfermé dans mon sein. »
De cette manière exacte
Marchant le long de la rive de la rivière,
Eurillo criait, quand
Par la douleur excessive
Ses pas à l'écoute de ses pensées,
Titubant,sur le sol pas encore sec,
Humide de rosée,
Il glissa dans l'eau et se noya ;
Ainsi les flammes de l'amour s'éteignirent.
