Der holde Lenz ist wieder wach

Language: German (Deutsch) after the Scottish (Scots)

  Der holde Lenz ist wieder wach,
Und Schlüsselblum' und Veilchen blühn;
Auf Girvan's klarem Elfenbach
Der Sonne letzte Strahlen glühn;
An Cassillis' Rand, wo Vöglein singt,
Wandl' ich mit Mary gern allein,
Und hasche jeden süßen Blick
Aus ihren holden Aeugelein.

  Wer sich der Erdenwonnen rühmt,
Hat oft auch Sorgen von Gewicht. -
Dich nenn' ich, holde Mary, mein,
Und schönres Loos begehr' ich nicht!
Laßt mich an Cassillis' Blumenrand
Genießen meiner Liebe Glück!
Was könnte mehr das Herz erfreun,
Als meiner Mary süßer Blick?

Lovely springtime is awake once more

Language: English after the German (Deutsch)

  Lovely springtime is awake once more,
And primroses and violets bloom;
The last rays of the sun glow
Upon Girvan’s clear fairy-stream;
On the banks of the Cassillis, where a birdlet sings,
I like to wander alone with Mary,
And catch hold of every sweet beam
From her dear, lovely eyes.

  He who boasts of earthly joys,
Often also has heavy cares. -
Lovely Mary, I call you mine,
And do not desire any better lot!
Let me upon the flowery banks of the Cassillis
Revel in my joy of love!
What could give my heart more happiness
Than the sweet glance of my Mary?
