Treballadors i valents llaurem els camps, tot cantant, d’un costat a l’altre. Amb cura volem desfer els tous terrossos, la tomba de les nostres llavors. Arriant amunt i avall, anem fent solcs, deixant sempre enrere el límit aconseguit. Cava, oh rella, cava! A fora la xafogor aclapara, al fons de la terra hi ha frescor. Abaixem l’esguard cap a terra, que les seves fosques entranyes siguin per a nosaltres estimables i secretes: però aquí no s’hi pot romandre; allò que s’ha sembrat esdevindrà pols i això és també el nostre destí. Sembreu joiosos en l’afany, les tombes resten obertes, els camps estan conreats; cobriu amb el rasclet i la pala les llavors enterrades i després: confieu en Déu! El sol de déu il•lumina, la pluja tèbia humiteja la verdor que germina. Oh neu, cau a flocs i estén el teu abrigall protector al seu damunt! Les collites minvaran allà on només els grans s’enfonsaren; la mare terra és lleial. Aquí res es farà malbé i la podridura destria només el gra de la palla. Els que s’adormiren abans que nosaltres reposen a les profunditats, sembrats a llurs sepulcres; passarà molt de temps abans que les tombes germinin i brostin les llavors de Déu! Qui plora per els morts creu que no arribarà mai el temps de la sembra. De les pellofes esporgades germinen a la vall dels morts els fruits de l’eternitat!
