by Gabriele D'Annunzio (1863 - 1938)

In amaca
Language: Italian (Italiano)
Mi cantano i rami
su 'l capo ne l'alba lunare;
ai dolci richiami
si piegano l'alghe de'l mare...

Risplender ne 'l mare
io veggo due rosse pupille:
da l'alghe tranquille
io sento una voce salir.

"Vergine bianca,
in fondo a 'l mare
vieni a sognare:
la notte manca."

Si curvano i rami
su 'l capo i profumi a spirare,
e già tra i fogliami
vanisce il chiarore lunare.

Un'ombra mi appare
a li occhi nuotanti ne 'l vano;
un alito umano
mi sento su 'l volto languir.

La luna già cade
ne 'l pallido ciel mattinale;
un fremito invade
il pallido mare d'opale.

Un'ansia mi assale:
non veggo più splender pupille;
tra l'alghe tranquille
ascolto la voce che muor.

"Vergine bianca,
in fondo al mare
vieni a sognare:
la notte manca."

Rivivono i rami
con brividi liberi a i venti;
e già tra i fogliami
i raggi discendono lenti.

I rami fiorenti
mi piovon rugiade su 'l volto;
io più non ascolto...
Dileguano i sogni d'amor.
