Óluvu kvæði
Language: Faroese
Available translation(s): ENG
Pippingur í Fraklandi
eigir eina frú,
Óluva eitur hennara dóttir,
bæði er hon væn og prúð.
Stígum fast á várt gólv,
sparum ei vár skó!
Gud man ráða, hvar vær drekkum
onnur jól.
Hugin setst í hásæti,
talar við sínar dreingirí
"Hvar vita tit mín javnlíka?
tað havi eg hugsað leingi."
Pipping kongur dóttur eigir,
hana hava menn við orði,
hennar er stólur av gulli gjördur,
framman fyri kongins borði.
So letur hann Hugin kongur
byggja skipini sín,
letur so laða í bæði borð
virtur og so vín.
Vindur nú upp síni silkisegl,
gull við reyðan brand,
strykar ei á bunka niður
fyrr enn við Pippings land.

Óluvu Poem
Language: English  after the Faroese
Pipin from France
Has a wife,
Óluva is her daughter’s name,
She is both pretty and plump.
Regularly dances firmly on our floor,
Not sparing our shoes!
God willing, we drink once more
Each Christmas to the news.
Hugin sits upon his throne,
Speaking to his boys:
“Do you know where to find a wife for me?
I have wondered for a long time.”
Pipin the King has a daughter,
Of which men have discussed previously;
For her, a chair of gold has been built,
In front of the king’s table.
He has, for Hugin the King,
A ship built for him;
On port and starboard
They fill with ale and wine.
Setting his silk sails,
Gold with red banner,
Not winding them down again
Until arriving at Pipin’s land.
