 Hvis jeg bare hadde
 tusen armer jeg kunne bruke!
 Da kunne jeg ført
 roret i stormen
 Jeg kunne pustet
 gjennom alle skoger,
 og drevet alle møllehjul.
 Da ville den skjønne
 møller-datteren lagt merke
 til mitt trofaste hjerte!

 Akk, hvor svak min arm er!
 Enhver unggutt kan løfte,
 bære, skjære
 eller slå som meg.
 Og der sitter jeg i den store ringen,
 i den kjølige kveldstimen.
 Og mesteren sier til alle:
 "Jeg er med arbeidet deres."
 Og den skjønne piken sier:
 "God natt til hver og en?"
