Die Erde lag vor mir im Frühlingstraum,
Den Licht und Wärme durchglühte,

Der Liebe Lenz war in mir erwacht,
Mich durch rieselt Frost, in der Seele ist Nacht.

Ich baute von Blumen und Sonnenglanz

     Serbavo la speranza in fondo al cuore,
mi affidavo a lei, che mi amasse,
mi brillavano gli occhi di gioia,
quando mi inondava il suo incanto,
quando ascoltavo la sua voce seducente.
Nella tempesta ne svanisce l'eco.
Taci, cuore mio, non ci pensare,
è questa ora la realtà, il resto era illusione.

    La terra mi sta davanti, come in un sogno primaverile,
mi muovo, ebbro di voluttà, per l'aria tiepida di luce,
mi fiorisce l'anima in petto,
la bella stagione dell'amore si ridesta in me.
Ma il gelo mi scorre dentro,
nell'anima è notte.
Taci, cuore mio, non ci pensare,
è questa ora la realtà, il resto era illusione.

    Ho costruito di fiori e di luce del sole
un ponte attraverso la vita,
su cui camminavo fra serti d'alloro,
consacrato ai più alti ideali,
