Wach' auf mein Lieb
Language: German (Deutsch)
Available translation(s): ENG
Fernab der Zeit liegst du in deinem Grabe
Und träumst und träumst,
Mich aber jammert es der schönen Tage,
Die du versäumst.
Mit rothen Rosen kränz ich deinen Hügel --
Spürst du den Duft?
Dringt's nicht wie Sonnenglanz und Liebesodem
In deine Gruft?
An's Herze nähmst!

Wake up, my love
Language: English  after the German (Deutsch)
Far away from time, you lie in your grave
And dream and dream,
I, however, am sorry about the beautiful days
That you are missing.
I garland your burial mound with roses --
Do you discern the scent?
Does it, like the radiance of sunshine and the breath of love,
Penetrate your sepulchre?
Wake up, my love! Do you wish to sleep through springtime
And its splendour?
The little bird that you love best
Sings every night.
My arm is white and my lips burn,
The lamp's light
Sparkles like a star through the chamber window --
You do not see it!
Yearning circles restlessly in my blood,
Ah, that you would come
And take all my sorrow and my great love
To your heart!
