Trinklied im Mai

Language: German (Deutsch)

Bekränzet die Tonnen,
Und zapfet mir Wein;
Der Mai ist begonnen,
Wir müssen uns freun!
Die Winde verstummen,
Und athmen noch kaum;
Die Bienlein umsummen
Den blühenden Baum.

Die Nachtigall flötet
Im grünen Gebüsch;
Das Abendlicht röthet
Uns Gläser und Tisch.
Bekränzet die Tonnen,
Und zapfet mir Wein;
Der Mai ist begonnen,
Wir müssen uns freun!

Zum Mahle, zum Mahle,
Die Flaschen herbei!
Zween volle Pokale
Gebühren dem Mai.
Er träuft auf die Blüten
Sein Roth und sein Weiß;
Die Vögelein brüten
Im Schatten des Mais.

Er schenket dem Haine
Verliebten Gesang,
Und Gläsern beim Weine,
Melodischen Klang;
Giebt Mädchen und Knaben
Ein Minnegefühl,
Und herrliche Gaben
Zum Kuß und zum Spiel.

Ihr Jüngling', ihr Schönen,
Gebt Dank ihm und Preis!
Laßt Gläser ertönen
Zur Ehre des Mais!
Es grüne die Laube,
Die Küsse verschließt!
Es wachse die Traube,
Der Nektar entfließt!

Es blühe der Rasen,
Wo Liebende gehn,
Wo Tanten und Basen
Die Küsse nicht sehn!
Ihr lachenden Lüfte,
Bleibt heiter und hell!
Ihr Blüten voll Düfte,
Verweht nicht so schnell!

Note: This is the version as published by Voß. The initial version of this poem, according to Hölty's manuscript, has two more stanzas and is quite different (see below).

Cant bàquic al maig

Language: Catalan (Català) after the German (Deutsch)

Poseu garlandes als tonells,
i traieu el vi;
el mes de maig ja ha començat
i ens hem d’alegrar!
Els vents han emmudit
i a penes respiren;
les petites abelles bugonen
als arbres florits.

El rossinyol refila
als verds matossars;
la llum del capvespre envermelleix
les copes a la nostra taula.
Poseu garlandes als tonells,
i traieu el vi;
el mes de maig ja ha començat
i ens hem d’alegrar!

A la taula, a la taula,
porteu les ampolles!
Un parell de copes plenes
pertoquen al maig.
Ell fa degotar damunt les flors
el seu rosat i el seu blanc;
els ocellets coven
a les ombres del maig.

Ell obsequia el boscatge
amb un cant d’amor
i, a les copes de vi,
un so melodiós;
als nois i les noies els dóna
un sentiment d’amor,
i magnífics dons
per a besades i jocs.

Vosaltres, joves i bells,
doneu-li gràcies i lloeu-lo!
Feu dringar les copes
en honor del mes de maig!
Que verdegi el fullatge,
segelleu les besades!
Que creixin els raïms,
que flueixi el nèctar!

Que floreixi l’herba
per on passen els amants,
on les ties i les velles,
no veuen les besades!
Oreig somrient,
resta serè i lluminós!
Flors plenes de perfum,
no us marciu tan de pressa!
