Wortloses Glück
Language: German (Deutsch)
Available translation(s): ENG
Sie zogen singend in den Wald hinein,
Ein langer Zug von frohen, jungen Menschen.
Wir aber schritten schweigend hinterdrein
Und fürchteten der eignen Stimme Klang,
Als möchte sie der Stunde Andacht stören,
Als ob für Alles, was nach Ausdruck rang
In unsrer Brust, das Wort sich doch nicht fände.
So schwiegen wir und schauten uns nur an
Mit tiefem Blick und drückten uns die Hände.

Wordless happiness
Language: English  after the German (Deutsch)
Singing, they wandered into the forest,
A long train of happy young people.
We, however, walked silently after them
And feared the sound of our voices,
As if it would disturb the worship of the hour,
As if the words could not be found for everything
That struggled for expression in our bosoms.
Thus we were silent and only looked at each other
With deep gaze, and pressed each other's hands.
