Als einst von deiner Schöne
Language: German (Deutsch)  after the Persian (Farsi)
Our translations:  ENG
Als einst von deiner Schöne,
O meine süße Wonne,
Ein Strahl entzückter Ahnung
Durch alle Himmel hin,
Durch die nun erst erhellten,
Sich breitete -- geboren
Ward eine neue Gottheit;
Die Liebe war's, der Herzen
Gewaltige Königin.

  Und über den Himmel schwang sie
Den flammensprüh'nden Zepter
Mit ihrer stolzen Hand;
Allein die Engel standen
Inmitten ihrer Feuer
Eiskalt und unentbrannt.
Da faßte Zorn die Göttin;
Sie flog zur Erde nieder,
Zu fühlender Menschen Herzen
Die Fittige gewandt.
Seit jenem Tage sprühen,
Seit jenem Tage glühen
Die Flammen ihres Zepters
Durch alles ird'sche Land.

Once from your beauty
Language: English  after the German (Deutsch)
Once from your beauty,
o my sweet bliss,
a ray, a seed of rapture,
through all the heavens above,
through spaces just illuminated,
spread itself -- and gave birth
to a new divinity;
This was Love, the heart's
fearsome queen.

And over the heavens she brandished
a flaming, sparkling scepter
in her proud hand;
But only angels stood
amidst her fire,
ice-cold and unmoved.
Anger seized the goddess;
she flew down to earth,
toward the receptive hearts of mankind
she turned her wings.
Since that day -- flashes,
since that day -- glows
the blaze of her scepter
through all earthly lands.
