Im Einschlafen
Language: German (Deutsch)
Available translation(s): ENG
Nun gingen die Winde schlafen
Im grünen Thal.
Ein letzter, zitternder Sonnenstrahl
Küßt heimlich das Ried,
Hoch über der Welt
Erwachen die Sterne,
In dämmernder Ferne
Verhallt ein Lied . . .
Die Bäume neigen
Sich auf den Grund,
Und über das Feld
Kommt zögernd das Schweigen
Und hebt den weißen,
Warnenden Finger
Lächelnd zum Mund.

While falling asleep
Language: English  after the German (Deutsch)
Now the winds have gone to sleep
In the green valley.
A last, trembling sunbeam
Secretly kisses the reeds,
High above the world
The stars awaken,
In the twilit distance
A song dies away . . .
The trees incline
Themselves over the ground,
And over the fields
Silence comes hesitatingly
And lifts its white,
Warning finger
Smilingly to its lips.
