Min fader hade ingen fru och ingen man min moder.
Jag växte upp bland pojkar sju, men ingen var min broder.
Mitt liv är trask från ort till ort på ständigt slitna klackar,
mitt hem är utanför var port, som stänges när jag knackar.

Jag ses ej gärna på den stig, där glada mänskor skalkas, 
men ilskna hundar vädra mig och gläfsa när jag nalkas.
Och ber jag stundom om en slant, så får jag ohörd tigga,
och dör jag vid en dikeskant, så får väl där jag ligga.
