Wie rein Gesang sich windet
Durch wunderbarer Saitenspiele Rauschen,
Er selbst sich wieder findet,
Wie auch die Weisen tauschen,
Daß neu entzückt die Hörer ewig lauschen:

So fließet mir gediegen
Die Silbermasse, schlangengleich gewunden,
Durch Büsche, die sich wiegen
[Von]1 Zauber süß gebunden,
Weil sie im Spiegel neu sich selbst gefunden;

Wo Hügel sich so gerne
Und helle Wolken leise schwankend zeigen,
Wenn fern schon matte Sterne
Aus blauer Tiefe steigen,
Der Sonne trunkne Augen abwärts neigen.

So schimmern alle Wesen
Den Umriß nach im kindlichen Gemüthe,
Das zur Schönheit erlesen
Durch milder Götter Güte
In dem Krystall bewahrt die flücht'ge Blüthe.

Comme un chant pur qui s'enroule
À travers le murmure merveilleux du jeu des cordes,
Se retrouvant lui-même à nouveau,
Comme les mélodies s'échangent
De sorte que les auditeurs soient toujours à nouveau attentifs.

Ainsi coule solidement
Le flot argenté, comme un serpent,
À travers les buissons qui se balancent
Doucement envoûtés
De se voir eux-mêmes dans le miroir ;

Là où les collines si doucement
Et les nuages brillants se fondent en vibrant légèrement,
Quand les étoiles lointaines
S'élèvent des profondeurs bleues
Et que le soleil baisse ses yeux enivrés.

Ainsi brillent toutes les créatures
Comme des silhouettes dans un esprit d'enfant,
Qui, choisie pour sa beauté
