Mit irren [Lichtern]5 spielt der Tag;
[Und auf den Blümlein in der Au]6
Erglänzt des Himmels feuchter Thau.

Ins [hohe]7 Gras legt er sich hin:
Läßt über sich die Wolken zieh'n -
An [Mutter Erde]8 angeschmiegt,
Hat ihn der Traumgott eingewiegt.

In the wood

Language: English after the German (Deutsch)

The woodland calls with luring voice,
'tis May when all that live rejoice:
I went and sought the warbling wood,
and gone was all my wintry mood.

Her lonely song the quail intones,
a drowsy bass the chafer drones,
among the moss gleam flow'rets blue,
by heav'n refresh'd with pearly dew.

Beneath an oak I lay me down,
forgot the busy mart and town,
and dreamt a dream of happy rest
upon my mother Nature's breast.

From a Schubert score.
